Killi Resources has commenced its maiden drilling campaign at the Lodestone Iron Ore Project in Western Australia’s Mid-West, setting the company up for a steady flow of assays and potential resource updates over the coming quarters.
The proposed 20,000-metre program will combine reverse circulation and diamond drilling across the broader Lodestone system. Its principal objective is to expand and upgrade the existing 110 million tonne Inferred Mineral Resource, while collecting material for further metallurgical testwork.
That is an important distinction for investors. Killi is not simply chasing another iron ore tonnage number. It is attempting to demonstrate that Lodestone can produce a high-purity concentrate suitable for direct reduction steelmaking, an emerging market that potentially commands better pricing than conventional benchmark iron ore.
The current resource is reported at 33 per cent mass recovery for a 69 per cent iron concentrate. Those figures help explain management’s enthusiasm, but the drilling and testwork still need to confirm continuity, recoveries and product quality at a scale capable of supporting an economic development case.

The existing resource occupies about five kilometres of a 25-kilometre-long recrystallised magnetite system. Killi plans to extend drilling coverage across approximately 15 kilometres, with mapping, surface sampling and a drone-based magnetic survey being used to refine additional targets.
For investors, the arithmetic is straightforward enough. If mineralisation continues beyond the current resource envelope, Killi may be able to add tonnes relatively quickly. The more difficult task is proving that those tonnes have consistent mineralogy and can be upgraded into the premium concentrate being targeted.
Chairman Nev Power summed up the strategy plainly: “By simply increasing the size of the resource, we stand to create substantial value for Killi shareholders - and that’s what this drilling program aims to do.”
The comment captures both the opportunity and the promotional edge. Resource growth can improve a project’s strategic relevance, but value creation will depend on more than scale. Future studies will need to address capital intensity, processing requirements, water, power, transport and the commercial terms attached to the project acquisition.
Lodestone’s potential appeal lies in its recrystallised, coarse-grained magnetite characteristics. Killi believes these features could support production of a high-purity direct reduction-grade concentrate.
That matters because direct reduction processes, paired with electric arc furnaces, generally require cleaner iron ore feed than traditional blast furnaces. Lower levels of impurities and higher iron content can improve process efficiency and reduce emissions intensity.
Killi expects such a product to attract a substantial premium to the standard 62 per cent iron benchmark. Investors should treat that expectation as a target rather than a settled commercial outcome. Premiums vary with product specifications, customer demand, processing performance and market conditions. Ongoing metallurgical work will therefore be every bit as important as the drill results.
Diamond core from the program will provide samples for that testwork, while the broader drilling campaign is intended to improve confidence in the resource sufficiently to support a future economic study.

The project is located about 200 kilometres from the Port of Geraldton and is surrounded by sealed roads, rail and grid power infrastructure. That does not eliminate development challenges, but it gives Lodestone a more favourable starting position than remote magnetite projects requiring major greenfield infrastructure.
Magnetite developments can be capital hungry because the ore generally needs crushing, grinding and magnetic separation before sale. Access to transport and power can therefore have a material bearing on project economics.
Killi’s next task is to convert that geographic advantage into a credible development pathway. The company has not yet presented a feasibility study, reserve estimate, development cost or production schedule, so it remains firmly within the exploration and resource-definition phase.
Assays are expected progressively as drilling advances, and Killi anticipates multiple resource updates over coming quarters. The drone magnetic survey across the full system is also scheduled for completion by the end of August.
That creates a potentially news-rich period for shareholders. Strong intersections, improved geological continuity and favourable metallurgical results could strengthen the case for a larger, higher-confidence resource.
The risks are equally clear. The existing estimate is entirely Inferred, project economics have not been demonstrated, and resource growth does not automatically translate into mineable reserves. Commodity prices, funding availability, approvals and processing performance will ultimately determine whether Lodestone graduates from an intriguing iron ore story into a viable development.
For now, Killi has moved from acquisition ambition to physical work on the ground. The drill rig will have the final say on whether Lodestone’s 25-kilometre footprint carries the scale and quality management believes it does.
